Many scientists earn between £25,000 and £40,000 per year. I’ve currently got a lower salary because my company is waiting on more funding (from grants or investors).

Some scientists can earn up to £80,000 per year (e.g. those who do consulting or have very key expertise in big companies).

As a postdoc, I think you might expect to get anywhere between about £25,000 and £35,000 per year depending on your experience and where you work. As a lecturer or professor, you’ll earn quite a bit more! I don’t know how much scientists who work for private companies earn, but Hira seems to know about this 🙂

Lecturer salaries are typically around £40,000 but this can be different in different parts of the country (for example, in London you get something called London Weighting as it is recognised that it costs a bit more to live in the capital).
