      The Moon was formed about 4.5 billion years ago! I don’t think scientists know exactly how it formed, but it might be that another object hit the Earth, which caused bits of the Earth to break off into the Earth’s orbit and form the Moon.

      Astronauts have suggested that the moon formed 4.51 billion years ago — 60 million years after the solar system took shape.
