I really liked maths and all the science subjects at school — but actually, maths *is* science! And there can be quite a bit of maths involved in science jobs. Although I’m not a mathematician, I often have to make calculations and understand mathematical ideas to help me create the sounds I need or figure out why the human ear behaves the way it does. And I also need maths to help me analyse my data and understand the results. But that doesn’t mean that all psychologists are brilliant mathematicians: we learn as we go along, and ask others for help if we need it!

Maths is often thought of as a type of science, alongside many other categories. For me, as a materials scientist, I see maths as a tool to help understand the science we do. Maths lets us understand statistics from experiments, some physics concepts, and to predict what will happen using equations. Maths is really important! But I don’t enjoy maths, I find it really difficult…

I think i would miss science if i chose maths, so i guess it would be science, although there is a little bit of maths in all of the science subjects so its hard to separate!
