I feel so lucky to be in this job! I left high school not really sure what I could do – all i knew is that i enjoyed science, so i’ve literally just followed the topics that i’ve been interested in and have now found myself in a place where i can not only do science, but i can teach it and share it with my students too! I dont think there was a single person or moment, but just a series of experiences that helped me to move to the next stage of my career path

I originally wanted to be a musician (I play clarinet and piano)! I did a music degree at university, and spent a lot of time playing my instruments. But while I was doing my music degree I took a course on music psychology, and I realised I was more interested in how and why we hear sounds than in practising the clarinet! So I started to focus more and more on psychology and hearing science, and eventually did a PhD on that topic, which is how I ended up in this job 🙂 So I guess my interest in music was the original inspiration!
