About Me:
My time is divided between existential crises and trying to sound like i know things. My success at these tasks is dependent on the amount of coffee I do/do not drink.

I like watching youtube and playing games, sometimes a bit of painting. When I am not doing these things I am reading about transhumanism and what it means to be human. Occasionally dragged out into the sun to go on adventures. People watching is also pretty neat too I guess

I examine the psychological factors of gene editing attitudes, what makes a person support or oppose its use. It is important to understand these attitudes now, so we can better understand how people will respond to gene editing when it is more widespread. For some, the idea of becoming smarter, stronger, more resistant to disease or more attractive is unappealing, while others dream of a day this becomes possible. I want to understand why these differences in attitude exist. Would you want to be superhuman?
-
My Typical Day:
Wake up. Coffee and nicotine. Train to work. Spotify on. Read. Think. Write. Occasionally do some maths. Procrastinate by chatting to everyone in the office. Go home.

I normally get to work, have more coffee and read the news. Then I sit around and look thoughtful for a bit, then have more coffee. If inspiration strikes at some point then I write down what I am thinking. If I am working on a study I normally work from home so I can watch YouTube or listen to music at the same time. When a study is going on it usually involves lots of coding and creating questionnaires. After the studies are done there is typically lots of panicking and trying to write things that make sense. Apart from that the job is pretty easy and enjoyable. I always try and make time to talk to people; half my ideas are from chatting to people and asking them questions.
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would like to arrange an event that brings gene editing experts, psychologists and the public together to raise awareness and increase communication between these groups.
