My hometown of Calgary in Canada does not have any volcanoes, but it is very close to the beautiful Rocky Mountains, which I definitely think contributed to my interest in the ‘Earth Sciences’. I always loved hiking in the mountains growing up, so when I realised that I could study volcanic ash and have opportunities to travel around the world through this job, it seemed liked the perfect fit! I now live in Leeds, which also doesn’t have any volcanoes but is well known for great research in Earth Sciences at the University of Leeds, and if we need to study a particular volcano we will go on a field trip to takes measurements and samples. Through my job I have been to Costa Rica, Ecuador, Italy, Japan, and Russia!
