T-Rex became extinct at around the same time as lots of other dinosaur species, about 66 million years ago. Scientists think that a giant comet or asteroid hit the earth, and this blasted dust and ash and other materials into the atmosphere. This blocked out the Sun’s light, causing a long period of cold weather, which affected the whole ecosystem and caused lots of species to die off. This is the explanation most strongly supported by the evidence, but some scientists have also suggested that the extinction might have been caused by volcanic eruptions, changes in sea level, or a number of different things happening together.
