The biggest volcano on Earth is believed to be Tamu Massif. It is an extinct (no longer active) volcano about 1600 km east of Japan at the bottom of the northwest Pacific Ocean. It covers an area of about 553 000 square km – this is over twice the size of the United Kingdom! It is nearly 4.5 km tall but the entire volcano is deep under water!
